Lancaster Area
Literacy Cooperative
The J. Marion Sims Foundation facilitated the creation of the Lancaster Area Literacy Cooperative as a way to focus energy on promoting greater community ownership of literacy as a key issue and establishing these funded programs as a widespread, coordinated system of literacy service delivery that will long outlive the Foundation’s initial support.
The Lancaster Area Literacy Cooperative, a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization has a mission to promote cooperation within an integrated framework of literacy providers by providing an effective forum for advocacy, for sharing resources and expertise, and for facilitating sustainability of programs.
We Believe ...
* Literacy is the foundation of personal, economic, and community empowerment.
* Having a collaborative and integrated network of service providers will increase the overall impact of literacy initiatives.
* Sharing resources in the form of knowledge, services, referrals, technology and funding will strengthen literacy providers’ ability to deliver effective services.
* Active participation of the community is vital to creating and sustaining change in the perception of literacy.
* Creating partnerships among business, government, and the community to promote literacy.
